Industry-leading self-storage company SureStore, alongside its investment partner Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) is excited to unveil its 14th self-storage facility, strategically located in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. This announcement marks another significant step in SureStore’s commitment to providing innovative and sustainable self-storage solutions across the UK.

A multi-purpose facility, SureStore Stevenage is testament to both SureStore’s growth and forward-thinking approach to self-storage. The site, a repurposed space that once housed a Curry’s retail store, has been transformed into a state-of-the-art, 4th-generation facility following its acquisition by LGIM’s specialist industrial fund IPIF in 2021.

Boasting a maximum lettable area of 50,000 square feet and approximately 500 self-storage units, the facility caters to a wide range of storage needs. From Home and Business self-storage options to a ground floor business centre with office space, SureStore Stevenage offers versatile solutions.

The development of this cutting-edge facility was made possible through collaborative effort and a partnership with investment partner LGIM. SureStore’s commitment to a sustainable, efficient, and customer-focused self-storage is embodied in the Stevenage facility, offering a glimpse into the future of self-storage.

Mike Wilson, co-founder of SureStore and Flexiss said “Opening our third site to target net-zero carbon in operation in Stevenage is a testament to SureStore’s dedication to environmental responsibility. By repurposing a redundant building, we have reduced the embodied carbon required in constructing a state-of-the-art facility.”

As well as the new and innovative self-storage facility in Stevenage, SureStore have previously collaborated with investors LGIM to open their York and Wokingham locations. The Flexiss Group and partner LGIM are proudly leading the way in the self-storage industry.

Innovation is at the core of SureStore’s operations, and the Stevenage facility is no exception. Equipped with Smart Keyless access technology, the facility allows for seamless, remote entry, enhancing security and convenience for all customers. Additionally, the SureStore customer app empowers customers to manage their self-storage accounts and access to their storage unit at any time, providing an unmatched level of control and flexibility.

Sustainability is another key pillar of SureStore’s mission which fully aligns with LGIM’s roadmap to net zero carbon by 2050. The Stevenage self-storage facility proudly stands as the third facility in the company’s portfolio to target operational net zero carbon performance, joining the ranks of York and Wokingham. This ambition also signifies that no fossil fuels are used in its operation.

Andy Wood, co-founder of SureStore and Flexiss said “We are thrilled to bring SureStore’s ethos of convenience, security, and sustainability to Stevenage. Our new facility represents a significant step forward in our mission to provide accessible and environmentally responsible storage solutions.”

The Stevenage self-storage facility’s bespoke Building Management System (BMS) plays a crucial role in monitoring and analysing real-time data to enhance efficiency and sustainability within the facility. This advanced system helps to minimise energy use, meets local energy use targets and is generated using renewable sources that demonstrate additionality.

In addition, eco-friendly features such as solar panels and on-site EV chargers, that can power up vehicles to 80% charge in just 30 minutes, also contribute to SureStore’s commitment to reduce its carbon footprint and support the transition to renewable energy sources.

BREEAM Rated as ‘Very Good’, the new SureStore Stevenage facility reflects the company’s dedication to improving environmental and sustainability performance. This rating is due to the facility’s design, construction, and operational practices.

A new and welcome addition to Stevenage, SureStore invites home and business customers to discover a secure, convenient and environmentally responsible way of storing their belongings. You can find SureStore Stevenage at Stevenage Retail Park, London Road, Stevenage, SG1 1XZ.
