A Self-storage depot made up of 83 shipping containers can be built on a site just off Leeds Road.
Planning permission for the storage depot on Buck Street was approved by Bradford Council this week.
Buildings next to a fenced off area on the street would be demolished to make way for the development, which was submitted late last year by a Mr Shahid.
The application said the buildings were “in a state of disrepair” and the rest of the site was fenced off due to people using the site to sell drugs and dump stolen cars.
It would provide much needed storage space for businesses on Leeds Road – the plans argued.
The site would have 52 shipping containers on the ground floor level, with a further 31 on a first floor level. There would also be security lighting and CCTV.
Approving the plans, officers said: “Even though shipping containers have limited design merit the industrial appearance will not detrimentally affect the character or appearance of the street scene or wider area which has commercial and industrial uses with many of the buildings within the vicinity of the site having an industrial appearance.”
Conditions of the approval are that the site only be open between 7am and midnight, and that the security lights not shine onto the neighbouring street.
