The Harrow store and team have recently won the UK Self Storage Association’s (SSA) “UK Independent Operator of the Year 2022” award. The competition for the award was strong, with stores from across the UK contending to take the number-one spot. To make a decision, the judges looked at every area of the business. In addition to typical business performance measures, they considered a wide range of other criteria, including the appearance of the store, security for customers, online customer experience, and factors such as any environmental or community support initiatives.

For example, the site was constructed according to the “BREEAM Excellent” standard and 91% of all demolished materials from the site were diverted from landfill and either retained, reused, or recycled. Currently, the building is equipped with solar panels, which generate power for the site, with LED lights being used throughout. Plants have been introduced to the site, both inside, in the form of a living wall, and outside with a range of biodiverse plants surrounding the façade. Complimentary electric vehicle charging is also provided for customers.
This store was the first that Attic Self Storage purpose-built from the ground up. This enabled the team to really put the customer needs and convenience at the forefront.
