Gloucester’s former Cineworld at Peel Centre (Stockport) will be turned into a Self Storage

The old cinema at the Peel Centre will be turned into a self-storage site.

It has been a long time since cinemagoers munched on popcorn and watched the latest blockbuster films at the former Cineworld in Gloucester. And now the old cinema at the Peel Centre will get a new lease of life as a self-storage site.

Nicholas Ryder has been granted permission by Gloucester City Council to change the use of the building from a cinema to a self-storage class with a sales and reception area.

The building will use the existing hardscaping arrangement including car parking and will be accessible by customers 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The building will be operated by three permanent staff at any one time to monitor the reception and offer assistance to customers during office hours between 8 am to 6 pm.

Developers said the overall proposed change of use to a self-storage facility with B8 Use class with ancillary retail will be beneficial to the environment creating jobs within the facility and opportunities for small businesses to develop and operate from the site.

Although only three jobs will be created to operate the facility it has been shown in other live operational facilities that dozens of jobs can be facilitated within the small and midsize enterprises sector. The new use will transform an existing building which has been left vacant and subject to criminal damage for a number of years into a facility to support the local community and economy.”

The city council approved the proposals on August 4.
