A major refurbishment of an industrial estate on the outskirts of a market town has seen new units built.

Ellough Industrial Estate, near Beccles, has seen its directors embark upon a program of refurbishment by rebuilding and developing new units. Its managing director believed it was possible to move away from traditional plain cladding by mixing colours and textures to create more interesting profiles.

Susan Barrett-Kelly, director of the site, said: “With the support of the directors and contractors, construction went ahead using four colours and a rounded horizontal profile, proving very popular.

“The program gathered pace and since then ten units have been refurbished and six new constructions undertaken each individually designed. “Even the World War II hangar has received a colourful facelift.

“The result is a variety of styles, all of which embrace an overarching colour scheme, the latest being an eye-catching development of 10,000 square feet at the entrance to the industrial estate.

“The design feature has become Ellough Industrial Estate’s unique selling point and has proven that small industrial estates can be more than bland, one-colour environments. “They can be attractive, inspiring places where businesses can thrive and grow.”

  • The construction of Ellough Industrial Estate began in the 1970s and its largest unit is a former wartime aircraft hangar.
  • The site offers premises to let from 28,000 square feet for larger businesses, down to self-storage units of 50 square feet.
  • It is located near to the A146 and is one mile from the town centre of Beccles.
  • There are many on-site services, including the popular Posh Pigs Cafe, famous for its full English breakfasts.
