Plans to create a self-storage facility on the Tanfield Lea Industrial Estate North have been revealed.
The Trustees of Forster Family Pension Fund wants to change the use of the site, to facilitate the sitting of 57 shipping containers for self-storage hire.
New vehicular access to the site would be created as a result of the scheme.
Currently, the land – located between Tanfield Engineering Systems to the west and the Classic Windows premises to the east – comprises open grassland.
Each of the containers would be individually accessed from an internal roadway, and would be self-serve.
While the development would not be managed on a permanent basis, there will be an employment need “generated through the general maintenance and upkeep of the site”.
A planning statement submitted with the proposal said that the facility “falls squarely under sse class B8 and therefore aligns firmly with the types of uses envisaged in the plan as being appropriate for this particular industrial estate”.
