A South West storage specialist has opened a new facility in Hayle, Cornwall, following a period of rapid expansion.
Britannia Lanes will open its new site following a refurbishment project, supported by an initial building purchase loan and subsequent funding facility from Lloyds.
Qualifying for a green CGFI loan, Britannia Lanes used the funding to complete its renovations and refit between January and November 2024.
The Hayle location is the latest addition to Britannia Lanes’ growing network of self-storage facilities, which includes existing sites in Truro, Falmouth and Exeter, with a fifth facility set to open in St Austell in 2026.
Boasting a range of storage units from 15 sq ft for to 250 sq ft, Britannia Lanes’ new site has been upgraded from an EPC E to B rating, using enhanced cladding panels to boost insulation and improve energy performance. This sustainability upgrade also reflects improvements made at the Falmouth site.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, Britannia Lanes started out with a facility in Launceston.
Although, this was ahead of its time, after a short period Lanes entered into the removal industry before re-entering self-storage the sector with the opening of its Truro site 27 years later in 2001. Now led by the second and third generations of the founding family, Britannia Lanes has plans to push further growth across Devon and Cornwall.
Mark Lane, managing director at Britannia Lanes, said: “We are extremely pleased with the support provided by Lloyds Bank.
“With their support, we have successfully expanded from two facilities to four in just three years, and we look forward to continuing this growth with the upcoming opening in St Austell and beyond.”
Tristan Bordeaux, relationship director for SME Banking at Lloyds, added: “It’s been extremely rewarding to play a part in the rapid growth of this family business as it expands its reach across the South West, particularly as it makes its operations greener and drives down carbon emissions from its premises.
“We worked with Britannia Lanes to deliver a loan structure that maximised flexibility, allowing them to draw down funds as construction progressed. Through this personalised support, the business was able to deliver a comprehensive sustainable renovation in record time, gathering momentum for its growth well into the future.”
