Fully Automated Self-Storage Facility Opens in Rossendale [Lancashire, England]

First fully automated self-storage facility opens in Rossendale

Rossendale now has its first fully automated self-storage facility, allowing homeowners and businesses access to their own unit from 5 am to 10 pm throughout the year. Best known as directors of Northern Whisper Brewery, based in Cloughfold, brothers Josh and Barney Vines branched out to purchase Pippin Bank Business Site, in Bacup, last year and when Unit 1, which faces Park Road, became vacant, the brothers decided to open it as NW Self Storage.

In just five weeks, the company has been able to let 50 per cent of the floor space. Sealed units on site vary from the equivalent of a double-sized wardrobe to a large garage space the size of three transit vans.

Josh said: “Pippin Bank has 10 premises and every one is now occupied. Tommy Tumble Town recently opened and is now a Stacksteads business. Connor Paving Specialist has just relocated to fill the last unit.

We have 33 spaces inside the self-storage facility, and because it is fully automated, we do not have to have members of staff on site, although we are always accessible should any customers have a question.”

Barney said: “Booking a storage space could not be easier and is all done online, so you could be outside the premises and in a few minutes have booked and paid for a unit, had it allocated and be able to put your passcode in to access it.”

When the bright green neon roller shutter has been opened, it closes automatically again after 60 seconds, so the premises remain secure and each rented unit has its own secure padlock.

Units occupied so far include a painter and decorator who needed a safe and accessible space for his equipment, with the opportunity to access it early so he can get to jobs on time.

Several people have booked units when they have been moving house, so they could store their possessions while their new house became available.

Neighbouring business PW Direct made some of the signage for the new premises.

Barney added: “There is no long-term lease commitment and the spaces are flexible, so it would be ideal for online sellers who are looking for somewhere safe to store their products.”
