Former PC World in Stevenage Set to Become Storage Facility

The unit, next to Halfords in Roebuck Retail Park, has lain empty for a number of years. But it will be given a new lease of life when Sure Store, a storage company for individuals and businesses, moves in later this year.

Stevenage Borough Council recently gave planning permission for the company to install its signage on the existing shopfront.

The plans date back to 2021, when an application for the redevelopment of Roebuck Retail Park proposed that Sure Store could move into the vacant unit.

A planning statement submitted as part of that application said that: “The proposed development seeks to regenerate and secure the long term economic future of the site, which is presently experiencing high levels of vacancy and has been an underperforming asset for some time.”

Sure Store will become the first company to occupy the building – which is the largest in Roebuck Retail Park – since 2017, when PC World vacated the unit and moved to their present site (rebranded as Currys) at Roaring Meg Retail Park.

Sure Store is expanding from its existing base of 12 locations in the Midlands and North of England, with 18 more new facilities planned in towns such as Bedford, Peterborough and Maidstone.

The company describes itself as offering “industry leading self storage facilities for a range of domestic and commercial purposes”.

They claim to be the first self-storage facility in the UK to enable customers to book their storage space online, and maintain a 50 per cent introductory offer for new customers.

Sure Store will join a range of storage facilities in Stevenage, with Safestore, Lok’nstore and Access Self Storage already having locations in the town.
