The company previously ran sites in York, Harrogate, Huddersfield and Wakefield. In addition to the new Sheffield facility, McCarthy’s has confirmed it will be opening a new 30,000 sq ft storage centre in Lincoln in September and a 55,000 sq ft centre in Chesterfield in 2024.”
A new state-of-the-art keyless self-storage facility in the centre of Sheffield has opened its doors.
McCarthy’s Storage World has created a 55,000 sq ft storage centre on the site of what was previously a Land Rover dealership on Savile Street, opposite Tesco.
The storage facility is the first in Sheffield, and one of only a handful in the UK, offering a high-tech, automated no-key system.
Using the Nokē system, access is gained via a phone app. The owner can grant remote access to other people if needed.
The system keeps a record of access to the unit and has heat and motion sensors linked through to an alarm.
McCarthy’s Storage World Sheffield is open to both business and individual customers, offering storage units varying in size from 15 sq ft to 500 sq ft.
Towards the end of the year, a drive-thru Starbucks will also be joining McCarthy’s on the site. The storage facility has a strong focus on sustainability. The site offers electric car charging points, and a bicycle
McCarthy’s, a family-run business of over 50 years, currently operates a storage facility in Leeds, which opened in 2008.
The company previously ran sites in York, Harrogate, Huddersfield and Wakefield. In addition to the new Sheffield facility, McCarthy’s has confirmed it will be opening a new 30,000 sq ft storage centre in Lincoln in September and a 55,000 sq ft centre in Chesterfield in 2024.
Mike McCarthy, managing director, said: “Self-storage as an industry continues to boom as people appreciate how useful it can be in so many different situations – from businesses looking to downsize their offices or hold stock, to individuals who are moving house, converting storage space to living space, or simply feel like they need more room.
“It’s an exciting time and since we opened, interest in our Sheffield site has already been significant.”
Adrian Starling is the global sales & marketing director for Janus International Europe Ltd, the company behind Nokē.
He said: “Nokē is an award-winning access control and business management system, specifically developed for self-storage.
“The system enables contactless move-ins, remote site management, and enhanced business data which means operators such as McCarthy’s can meet the needs of the tenants of tomorrow.”
