Self storage operator Big Yellow reported a 14.6% improvement in closing occupancy for its first quarter on Thursday, to 4.49 million square feet, as the maximum lettable area across its store estate grew by 6.3% to 4.98 million square feet. U.K. self storage operator Big Yellow Group PLC is building a facility on a 0.8-acre site in Epsom, England, just south of London. The company purchased the property for £6.5 million. Once complete, the project will be 56,000 square feet. Squab Group, a family-operated storage company with three locations in England, is building a new location in Rubery, England. Hortons’ Estate Ltd. will construct the 15,000-square-foot facility in the Birmingham Great Park on Hollymoor Way. Expected to be complete this year, it’ll also offer offices for rent. Self storage operator Safestore Holdings PLC, with locations in Europe and the United Kingdom, has released its interim financial statement for the first half of its 2021 fiscal year, which ended April 30. The company experienced growth in revenue and occupancy for most of its operating portfolio, according to its report. Shurgard Self Storage Europe to Convert Two Buildings in Paris

Shurgard Self Storage Europe SARL, the European affiliate of U.S.-based REIT Public Storage Inc., is converting two buildings in Paris to self storage. The first, northwest of Central Paris, will comprise 53,820 square feet in 800 units. The second, in southwest Paris, will have the same square footage in 750 units. Both are expected to be complete at the end of 2022. Shurgard operates 40 locations and has five other projects underway in Paris.
