Handy Garden Machinery was long established on Hobley Drive in Stratton, opposite Aldi, but was forced to shut in 2020 because it was not economically viable for the owners to continue with the lockdowns. Hortons’ Estate has completed the development of a facility in Birmingham on behalf of expanding family-run removal and storage company. Squab Group has invested in the new self-storage facility on the final remaining plot at Birmingham Great Park, Hollymoor Way in Rubery. The UK-based Container Self-Storage and Traders Association (CSTA) has published its first census on activity in the self-storage industry. Focused on the UK, the report revealed that at the end of 2021 some 572 companies were active across what the CSTA described as 978 “properly defined and/or dedicated sites”. This was up about 4% (35 sites) on the previous year. Altogether The total number of containers in use for self-storage was 72,644 TEU. Newport-based self-storage specialist ‘Storage Giant’ says it is on course to double in size during the next two years, having grown its occupancy rates during the coronavirus pandemic.
