A Diss car park is set to become a self-storage business after a fall in demand.

Developers want to turn an old overflow car park in Gilray Road, next to Diss railway station, into shipping container storage.

The plans, which have been submitted to South Norfolk Council (SNC), would see 31 shipping containers placed on the site, 30 for storage and one double-height container which would be used as a facilities hub, including for CCTV.

In the application to SNC, the developers said the car park has become redundant after a fall in demand following the Covid-19 pandemic and a reduction in commuter and leisure travel to and from Diss.

They also blame the construction of new car parks on the opposite side of the tracks.

The site will be open 24/7 but is expected to be used more in the daylight hours. It is primarily intended as domestic storage by homeowners for the short to medium term.

The application will be decided by SNC in due course.
