Plans For 100 Self-Storage Containers In Bangor

The city centre site could accommodate 67 of the larger containers and 33 of the small ones.

One of the UK’s biggest container storage companies is hoping to develop a new site in the centre of Bangor. Lock Stock Self Storage has applied for full planning permission to place around 100 containers on land behind the West End, just off Euston Road.

Applicant Stuart Bowker, operations manager of the firm, says in his application to Gwynedd Council, received on June 27, that the units would be for use by local business and individuals. He claims they would provide “ideal starting points for small emerging businesses and traders working from home”.

The containers will be a mixture of 6m x 2.4m x 2.4m (about 20ft x 8ft x 8ft) and 67 3m x 2.4m x 2.4m ( 10ft x 8f x 8ft). A drawing shows the site could accommodate about 67 of the larger containers and 33 of the small ones.

The plans also say the site would be covered by a “high definition CCTV system” and photocell controlled lighting “strategically positioned” for 24-hour access. As part of crime prevention, “fencing, security gates, together with floodlights and cameras will be provided to clearly define the site boundary and provide security to the site”.

The containers would be painted dark green and laid out in rows of single height units to “minimise any visual impact of the site“, the plans say. The development will only provide one full-time employee, but Mr Bowker said that the “indirect employment created would be much higher”.
